While I am very pleased to hear that Bin Laden is no longer breathing and I understand that many may feel that this symbolizes a sort of “closure” to 9/11 and the war in Afghanistan, I can’t help but feel a bit disgusted by the crass, cheering mob of 20-somethings jumping around outside the White House chanting “USA”. As the world celebrates this occasion-and it should-let’s not forget that even killing a killer is an ugly business and we could be appreciating Bin Laden’s demise in perhaps a more dignified way, in a way that would make his victims proud of us.
